I went for an evening meal recently and had the best steak pie Ive ever eaten in a pub/restaurant...lovely pastry and masses of meat in a rich gravy..the saute potatoes were plentiful and delicious and the veg spot on..cannot praise it enough...my friend had pork medallions with apple which looked yummy and she said it was as good as it looked..we both had desserts, Eton Mess and a Chocolate Toblerone Dessert (cant remember the name!) which were both delicious...all in all a good eveing..will definitely go again. Went to the newly refurbished The Exchequer in Crookham Village last Wednesday at lunchtime. The pub has recently reopened after three months and looks very stylish inside. The pub was very busy for a midweek lunchtime and when we sampled the menu we could see why! I had the warm salad of crispy mushrooms and Camembert with garlic and cranberry dips, followed by lemon posset, red fruit compote and shortbread. Those of us who liked lemon thought the posset was very, very good. All the dishes on the lunch menu cost £8.50 and are delicious. The dish of the day was duck pancakes and salad which also got the thumbs up! The desserts vary in price, but the chocolate mousse is lovely and there is lots of it, so we all got a taste - if you love chocolate you will love this dessert.
There is also a comprehensive gluten free menu which I shall remember as one of my friends suffered from Coelicac's. Can recommend The Exchequer for a lovely lunchtime meal and will be going back soon!
