The winning parliamentary candidate
-
Chris Gill - Chief Brewer and Owner, Ascot Ales
in next month’s General Election could be toasting success with a
locally-brewed beer rather than a glass of Champagne, following an offer by brewer Ascot
Ales based in Camberley, to provide celebratory beers on the night of 6th
May.
Chris Gill, Head Brewer & Owner
says, “It seems completely wrong for new MPs to be marking this very British
occasion with sparkling wine shipped in from France, when there’s an independent
brewer on their doorstep. We produce wonderful craft beers from local, natural
ingredients, using minimal food miles. We make a valuable contribution to our
local economy and community.
“And, at a time when pubs are
closing at record levels, there’s also evidence that pubs which serve a good
pint of cask ale are less likely to fail than those that don’t. We can’t think of a better way for MPs to
show their support for local beer and local pubs than by raising a glass of
British beer at the start of their term in public office.”
The offer from Ascot Ales is part of
a nationwide campaign organised by the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA).
The organisation wrote to some 2,300 parliamentary candidates earlier this
month, encouraging them to replace the traditional victory tipple of Champagne with a glass
or two of beer brewed in their constituency.

Ascot Ales, an award winning
four barrel micro-brewery, opened its doors in June 2007 in Camberley, Surrey. Since then Chris Gill has created some highly individual ales reflecting his love of English Ales
but brewed with a flavoursome twist of full flower hops, or warming spices and
plenty of blended malts.
