M A Al-Kharafi Islamic Centre
25th January Surrey Heath Borough Council Planning Applications
Committee agreed, by a majority vote, to support the plan to build an Islamic
mosque in Camberley. The new mosque is
planned to be built on the site of the M A Al-Kharafi Islamic Centre on the London Road which
was bought by the Muslim community with the help of the Al-Kahrafi family of Kuwait
in 1996. The Islamic Centre is currently
housed in a Victorian school building that used to be St. Gregory’s Roman
Catholic Primary School. There has been
a Muslim Community in Camberley since in the 1970’s made up of different
nationalities and the Centre is run by the Bengali Welfare Association.
The site of
the proposed new mosque is within the Royal Military Academy Conservation Area
which was designated as such in 1989. Planning
officers had recommended refusal of the plans to build a new mosque on the site
and many local residents had also voiced their objections. The two applications relating to the site were
agreed in principle on Monday night, but will need to go before February’s committee
meeting when objectors to the proposal can have their say.

Why is it that the Moslems are not sticking to planning law, or indeed any English Law and repairing their building rather than destroying our culture and wishing to have it demolished ?

ReportThey dont have to get rid of it you know they could use the building instead of destroying it!

ReportIt's good that we have a multi-cultural society in Camberley but couldn't the mosque be built somewhere else? I think it would be a real shame to lose the old school building. It's part of Camberley's heritage.
I saw an item on this on the local news - so it's great to have a website where everyone can put forward their views!
I think there will be a lot of discussion over this issue!
