Camberley People has 200 registered users!  So a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who has

registered and written stories for the site and WELCOME to our 200th

registered user – Friends of Crabtree Park.

The site has been live since the very end of January and now

has nearly 270 followers on Twitter.  If

you have a story about Camberley or would like to keep Camberley People updated

about what is happening in your street, your neighbourhood, sports club,

voluntary group or business, please join the site and let us know. When

“writing” a story you can add up to three photos and also link to other websites.  The story then gets twittered to all of

Camberley People’s followers!

If you don’t want to write a story, you can post a gallery

of pictures – they say picture can tell a thousand words – and it would be

wonderful to see what is happening in and around Camberley.

Over the last 8 months I have discovered a lot about

Camberley that I didn’t know existed.

There is just such a lot going on – you only have to type “Camberley” in

to a search engine to find lists and lists of clubs, groups and organisations

that are alive and well in the town and its surrounding areas.  I have been invited to the Camberley &

District Athletics Club, visited the Camberley Youth Wind OrchestraCamberley & Farnborough Hockey Club, (story to

follow) and St Paul’s, Camberley and

Camberley Chess Club are regular posters to the site.  I have attended the RMA Heritage Day, the

Frimley Green Open Gardens Day (was unable to get to the carnival, but the

committee sent photographs of the day for the site), and the Surrey Heath Show

and numerous parties in Park

Street – this weekend there is an Italian Market

in Park Street!  I have visited Camberley Theatre and met the

stars of this year’s pantomime and watched the Savoy Singers perform Chess the

Musical.  Have also leant a lot about

what goes on in the Borough – Surrey Heath in Bloom, the Surrey Heath Musician

of the Year Competition  - the finals are

on Saturday 13th November at Camberley Theatre -  and hopefully next year I will be able to see

the Surrey Heath team compete at the Surrey Youth Games.

There have also been and are the big stories that are having

an impact in Camberley.  The site went

live just after the decision was made to allow the planning application for the

new mosque and as the council announced that a procedural error meant that the

decision was invalid and that there would be a public meeting. At the public

meeting the planning application was refused and currently the Planning

Inspectorate is considering an appeal by the Bengali Welfare Association. The

closing date for this process is Thursday 28th October and the

decision will be made on written evidence rather than at a public inquiry.

Among other stories over the summer months were the Chobham

Ridges fire that burned for several days and closed The Maultway for a while

and the bomb scare in Portesberry

Road that led the town centre to being

closed.  In July Camberley Football Club announced

its consultation on plans to develop the Krooner

Park site and build a new stadium on Crabtree Park which would mean Camberley losing some

public green space and the launching of the Friends of Crabtree Park – Keeping

Green Spaces Open to the Public.

Also in the time the site has been up and running new shops

and restaurants have opened in Camberley and more are coming!

So please don’t let anyone tell you that there is nothing

happening in Camberley – there is you just have to know where to look for it

and hopefully this site will help!

Spread the word, post a story, link to your website and let’s all

connect, ‘cos I do believe Camberley has a thriving community, we just don’t

know enough about one another!

    Hi Maggie,

I think it's a great site too. Are you the right person to ask about advertising on the site? I have submitted 3 requests, using the "Contact Us" page, for further information about upgrading the directory listing for AdJuice (http://tinyurl.com/3ybdhuq) and other advertising options but have not received any response.

Hi Emma, Glad you like the site - and thank you for posting about Comedy Night at the theatre. Spread the word, the site is here for the local community to write about things that are happening and going on in Camberley, and to discuss issues that effect the town. The appeal against the decision to refuse the planning applications for the new mosque will be heard at a public inquiry early next year - see the link below
