-
Boycie and Marlene coming to Camberley Theatre on 2nd Septebmer
you to spend an evening in their company at Camberley Theatre on Thursday 2nd September and share some of the memorable
moments of appearing in one of Britain’s
most popular situation comedies of all time.
“Only Fools and Horses was voted No 1 in a BBC poll to find the nation’s
best comedy. The show began in 1981 and
after a shaky start (it was nearly axed because of poor viewing figures) its
popularity grew and grew, so that in 1996 when its “final” episode was made and
broadcast it made television history is becoming the most watched television
show of all time with 24.3 million people tuning in to see the show. Five years later, the first of another
“final” trilogy was broadcast on Christmas Day 2001 with the last two parts
shown on Christmas Day 2002 and 2003.
After years of planning “Boycie” and “Marlene” had their own series “The
Green, Green Grass” which ran for four series.
John Challis is best known for his portrayal of Boycie, but
has enjoyed a successful career in theatre, film and radio for many years. He has appeared on stage in London
and New York
in Tom Stoppard’s one act plays “Dogg’s Hamlet” and “Cahoot’s Macbeth”; the
National Theatre with Sir Michael Horden in “The Rivals”. He has toured with
Barbara Windsor in “Entertaining Mr Sloane” by Joe Orton. Other television credits include a six part
Dr Who story “The Seeds of Doom” with Tom Baker.
Sue Holderness began her career in Manchester with the 69 Theatre Company in “A
Midsummer Night’s Dream”, “Peer Gynt” and as Desdemona in “Catch My Soul” a
rock-musical version of Othello by Jack Good.
Since then she has worked consistently in theatre and radio, film and
television. On television she has
appeared in “Minder”, “Bless This House”, “The New Avengers” and “Doctors” to
name but a few. Sue also played Rachel’s
mum in the Granada
series “Cold Feet”. Much of Sue’s career
has been in performing Alan Ayckbourn plays, three of which (“Relatively
Speaking”, “Time and Time Again” and “How the Other Half Loves”) she toured
with John Challis.
As well as the chance to relive some of the memorable
moments from one of the most popular TV comedies, there will be a chance to
discover some of the things that didn’t make it on to our TV screens as well as
an opportunity to ask questions of both John Challis and Sue Holderness about
their time on the show and their long and busy career. Tickets available from Camberley Theatre and cost £16.50 (Friends £15.00).
