I have just received a letter from Surrey Heath Planning, regarding the appeal for the Mosque on London Road..... Not only do they want to knock down a listed building in camberley, they want to build a morgue and a detached house and residential accomodation on this site!! How many times do the people of camberley have tell the council that we do not want this too happen..... Please all write to your MP ... and let them know the feeling of local people..... Mr Cameron tells us he wants this big society, well we now have the chance too show what we as a community can do

Just to clarify something, that people have been living at that building for years. 282 london road is residential as well as a place of worship.

I didn't realise that people were living there, I just thought it was a place of worship or do you mean a caretaker lives on site?

i just passed there today, and something is going on the sign has been taken down ,and there is work going on in the grounds..... lets hope they dont know something we dont. the planning date is the 23rd november, I just hope that we have not been ignored again.....This type of building does not go with the landscape of camberley, it is ok as it is... The London road is a bad enough eye sore.. and knocking down a listed building, and putting up a building that belongs in a totally different environment is planning gone mad...... If they can spend all that money on building a huge new place of worship, then they can upgrade the existing building.....

Please help local residents save these buildings from being demolished. There will be a Planning Inquiry in the new year which will decide whether the school stays, or whether it's knocked down and replaced with a new mosque. Visit our website: http://tinyurl.com/27oz9vg for all the latest news about the appeal and how you can help.

Hi Gerogia58 - thank you for posting - if you "write" a piece for the site, itwill also get twittered to all the followers of Camberley People too! (There are over 300 followers now). Writing about something means you are able to add up to three photos and also link to your website and others that are relevant. The date by which people needed to sumit their views to the planning inspectorate was 30th November and I understand that the inquiry will be held sometime in the New Year.

Hi Georgia 58 and Maggie_V. I've just posted under the Local People (News) heading that you may find interesting. The appeal date is April 5 and is likely to be held in the Camberley Theatre. The appellants are employing some top people to make their case costing we've heard over £20k each per day! they clearly want this site and demolish the old school.

Check out saveourschoolappeal.org.uk for info and please sign the petition on there to let our soldiers voice their concerns.

Incidentally, the residential part of the current site houses the Imams (there are 2) and their families.
