We are a great fan of Costa's in Peascod Street and often meet up for a coffee there before or after hitting Waterstones, Game or HMV, but it gets quite busy, particularly at lunchtime, with quite a queue forming. So today we thought we would try Good Taste Coffee for a change which is situated on the High Street just up from Barclays Bank.
It turned out to be a good move, there was no queue at 1pm and the coffee range and quality is not dissimilar to Costa's but the selection of food available is considerably better, not least because it is associated with the bakery further down the High Street. Freshly made cakes and pastries are in abundance, but we chose paninis, soup and a Cornish pasty, although they also make baguettes and sandwiches to order.
The decor is also not dissimilar to Costa's with the added bonus of an outdoor terrace that looks good to use when the weather is a bit warmer!
The only hiccup was a mix up over the pannis that we ordered, the wrong ones being brought to our table, But they were very apologetic, and brought the correct ones as soon as they could together with a free hot drink to make up for the delay.
Everything was suitably hot and tasty and combined with the comfortable environment made the short walk up from the Mall well worth the effort. We even got a cheery thank you and good bye from the staff as we left, so we definitely plan to come back another day.
