Surrey Heath Borough Council Issues Advice for Preparing for Winter Weather
By Sophie_J | Tuesday, December 13, 2011, 15:43
Surrey Heath Borough Council is preparing to minimise the impact of possible bad weather on services and help residents know where to find out the latest information.
In the event of any severe weather conditions such as snow or ice, updates and advice are available from www.surreyheath.gov.uk, by following them on Twitter at www.twitter.com/surreyheath or by liking their Facebook page 'Surrey Heath'.
Meals on Wheels
Surrey Heath Borough Council will do all it can to maintain its meals-on-wheels service to elderly and vulnerable residents. Extra assistance will be pulled in from Surrey Heath Rangers who will support the service to operate as normally as possible.
Waste Services
During severe weather, a decision will be taken at 6am each day about sending out refuse and recycling crews. Should wintery conditions mean it is unsafe, changes on collection days will be published on their website and social networking sites.
Community Transport and the Windle Valley Centre
The Dial-a-ride community transport service and the Windle Valley Centre will be reviewed on a day to day basis in case conditions mean it is too dangerous getting service users from their front doors to the buses. Should the services be suspended due severe weather individual service users would be contacted.
Roads and pavements
Surrey County Council is responsible for roads and pavements, including gritting and snow clearance. Their winter service updates, including priority gritting routes, grit bins locations and travel information can be found via www.surreycc.gov.uk/winter.
Street cleaning crews will help with the gritting of pavements in town centres and shopping centres in urban parts of the borough. Surrey County Council has given Surrey Heath 28 tons of grit to spread in these areas this year.
