Lightning destroys home while owners on holiday

A HOME in Windlesham was destroyed over the Bank Holiday weekend after being struck by lightning.

Five fire crews were alerted after a lightning strike sparked a huge blaze at the empty property in Smithys Green, Windlesham, at 3.25pm on Saturday (August 25).
Shocked neighbours watched helplessly as the home was engulfed by the fire, which is thought to have happened while the owners were away on holiday.
Neighbour Natalie Bance tweeted: "It's pretty nerve wracking to hear lightning has hit a house round the corner.
"There was a lot of smoke and a lot of sirens."
Surrey Fire and Rescue said the blaze tore a hole in the roof and ripped through most of the first floor of the home. Fire crews were on the scene until 5.10pm.The property suffered 100 per cent damage to the roof, 80 per cent damage to the first floor. The rest of the home suffered water damage.
