CAM meets Mchael Gove at the Surrey Heath Literary Festival on Saturday
Merger – is working hard to raise awareness for their campaign to keep
Tomlinscote and Kings International separate.
You may have seen them in and around Camberley wearing bright orange
T-shirts bearing the acronym CAM! On Saturday 14th May CAM were
collecting signatures in Park Street, on Friday 20th May attended
the meeting of the SCC Education Select Committee (click here to see the
statement read out at the meeting) and last Saturday 22nd May representatives met with Michael Gove, Surrey Heath's MP and
the Secretary of State for Education after he presented prizes and certificates
to the winners of the Surrey Heath Literary Festival Short Story Competition.
On Thursday 19th May CAM invited local
councillors, representative from Surrey County Council and local businesses to
join them on a walk between the two schools.
The walk was planned to coincide with National Walk to School Week
and its purpose was to see the problems and obstacles pupils will have to
negotiate on their journey to school should the merger proposals be accepted.
It is not too late to get involved, sign the petition or
attend a meeting! Surrey County Council
is holding consultation meetings at Lakeside
next week. On Thursday 26th
May there will be a meeting for prospective parents of both Tomlinscote and
Kings International from 5.00pm – 6.45pm and from 7.00pm to 9.00pm a meeting
for the wider community.
If you don't think it affects you, CAM
point out that alongside the educational issues, there are major consequences
for traffic in the area:
- Can
you imagine the impact of 500+ car journeys around Frimley Park
Hospital every
morning and afternoon?
- For
those living close to the school sites, consider the chaos that will ensue
with hundreds more parents trying to drop off their children around your
home
- The
environmental impact of journeys by car that would previously have been
made on foot.
CAM would like your support! You can even buy an orange CAM
T-shirt to show your support visibly.
