On Thursday 30th June the NUT and ATL are taking strike action over the government's plans for teacher's pensions that they say would make the profession far less attractive and mean working longer, paying increased contributions and receiving less when they retire.  The NUT's National Executive endorsed the decision to take  industrial action on Thursday 30th June, saying a "massive 92%" were in favour of strike action from a turnout of 40%.  The ATL reported its members "overwhelmingly in favour of action" as 83% voted to support the strike from a turnout of 35%.  David Cameron will make another call to the teachers to call off Thursday's strike at the Local Government Association Conference at Birmingham today, but in the meantime what is happening in Camberley schools.

As Camberley's MP is Michael Gove, the Secretary for State for Education, it is interesting to see what it effect the strike will have locally.  Most schools in Camberley will be open based on my phone calls to schools this morning.   Some are partially open and a handful are closed.

The schools that are closed are Collingwood College, Tomlinscote, Frimley CofE Primary School, Mytchett Primary School and Ravenscote Community Junior School.

Bristow Infant School, Cordwalles Junior School, Lakeside Primary, Portesbury School and The Grove Primary School are partially open ie.  Some classes are running as normal while others will not be taking place as there will not be staff to cover.  Carwarden House Community School has only one year group affected by the strike.

The schools that will be open are Kings College International, Camberley Infants, Crawley Ridge Infants, Crawley Ridge Juniors, Cross Farm Infants, Heather Ridge Infants, Lorraine and Pine Ridge Schools, Prior Heath Infants, Sandringham Infants, St Augustine's Primary School and Watchetts Junior School.

Events are being organised throughout the country on 30th June to demonstrate against the government's pension proposals and there will a rally and march in Camberley on Thursday starting at 1.00pm starting at Camberley railway station and finishing at Michael Gove's office.

On a more personal note at  my son's school the vast majority of teachers have decided not to strike but are wearing yellow (ATL union colour) as a sign of protest.
