The 62-year-old victim suffered cuts and bruises after he was approached from behind by a group of three men on Whitmoor Road shortly after midnight on Saturday (September 22).
One suspect kicked the local resident in the kidneys, causing him to fall to the ground. The rest of the group then repeatedly kicked the victim and demanded he hand over his money.
Detective constable Matt Gamble, investigating, said: "This was a vicious attack on a gentleman who was just making his way home after a night at the pub. Unfortunately due to the nature of the offence the victim was not able to see the perpetrators, other than to describe them as wearing white trainers"
